Know Your Values = Claudia Wright

Claudia Wright made it through the Utah State Democratic Convention on Saturday to earn a primary against Rep. Jim Matheson.  She made it through to convention even though Matheson filled the building with teenagers wearing his t-shirts and gave away pizza and donuts.  She made it through even though her signs were painted by hand and his signs covered every wall in the building. She made it through because Matheson’s office only chose to call once they found I was a delegate and “mattered” to them.

The reason Claudia made it through to convention was because we want a real representative in Congress and she deserves to win that responsibility.

There are a lot of reasons why Claudia is superior to Matheson as a candidate.  So many in fact, that Matheson supporters only cite an opinion, “inability to win,” as a reason not to support her. Einstein used to say that the sign of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I was insane when I called and wrote Matheson hundreds of times expecting him to get into contact with his constituents about our needs. Instead, maybe insanity is voting for him after he has failed us so many times.

To those of you who are afraid to support Claudia and afraid she is going to eventually  lose, I ask you to stop the spread of negativity in your lives. It is crippling you and the people around you.  It’s the same negativity that made one of my best friends struggle with his self-confidence at only 7 years before losing the fight some 20 years later. It’s the same negativity that breaks the heart of a child when you tell them they will never be a famous singer/ pro-athlete/ President of the United States. It’s the same negative people who chastise friends about failure when they want to move across the country to a new place.  It’s poison.

We want an end to corporate person-hood and a restoration of personal responsibility.  We want cleaner air. We want access to affordable private heath care (at the very minimum) for all Americans. We want someone who doesn’t ignore us when we have a desire to get in touch with them. We want someone who supports the rights granted in the Constitution for all Americans. No Democrat OR Republican would disagree with these statements.

We want Claudia Wright.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
