Brandi Carlile is pure music.

Brandi Carlile played live in Salt Lake City this past Thursday evening at The Depot.  Though her sophomore album, The Story, was well received, her live performances make it seem like a teaser for an authentic live version.  At one point, she played with no amplification, forcing the crowd silent to hear the quality of her voice.

I saw Brandi live for the first time at KRCL’s Independent Record Store Day performance where she did a cover of Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison Blues. I had never heard of her before that, so it was refreshing to find her unencumbered by the mainstream music business. If you ever get the chance to see her, please do.

She played many songs from her new album, Give Up The Ghost, scheduled for release October 6, 2009. The new songs are amazing as expected and I look forward to seeing more from her.
